John Nevins Andrews was born in Poland, Cumberland, Maine, July 22, 1828. Although young, he took an important part in the great Advent movement of 1843-44. He was a keen, intelligent student of the Bible, and at once realized not only the importance of the Sabbath in the Bible, but also its vital significance in the fulfillment of prophecy in the last days, connected with the doctrine of the sanctuary and the three angels' messages of Revelation. His greatest work, The History of the Sabbath, took him more than ten years of intense research. It has aroused much opposition from the advocates of Sunday observance, but the evidence presented therein has not been refuted.
