 The spotless Son of God hung upon the cross; His flesh lacerated by the scourging; His hands, often outstretched in blessing, nailed to the cross; His feet, over-wearied in their service of love, nailed to the tree, His royal head crowned with a crown of thorns, and His quivering lips formed in a cry of wailing. All that He endured—the drops of blood that trickled down His face, His hands, and His feet; the sufferings that convulsed His frame; the unutterable anguish that filled Him as His Father turned His face from Him—speaks to every child of man and says: 'For you the Son of God bore this burden of sin, for you He destroyed the power of death, and opened the gates of Paradise.
